Agora Gallery presents Unbound Perspectives, a group exhibition highlighting work that presents reality with heightened aesthetic possibilities. Bringing together no fewer than eighteen artists, the exhibition is an eclectic mixture of photography, painting, and sculpture. Some pieces present subtler, updated forms of surrealism: familiar objects and figures taken out of context and placed into new environments, or classic art historical tableaux with present-day icons swapped in. Other pieces are rooted in abstraction and approach the familiar from the opposite end of the spectrum. There are investigations into color, line, and texture, all as they relate to depicting things from the real world – and especially, imagining them differently. One of Taiwan’s most acclaimed contemporary artists, Hung Yi (洪易), is bringing his fantastical and cheerful sculptures to New York City in a Fall/Winter exhibition. Fancy Animal Carnival will be on view in the Garment District Pedestrian Plazas starting September 20th. Eight large-scale, vibrantly-colored animals, will be installed along Broadway, from the iconic Herald Square Macy's to 42nd Street, Times Square. Each of the animal sculptures represents a narrative, expressed through traditional Taiwanese symbols and motifs believed to bring luck.
