The Art Students League of New York 2014 Gala Honoring Ai Weiwei and Gregg Wyatt
October 9, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 11:45 pm$50 - $500
The Art Students League of New York will honor internationally renowned artists Ai Weiwei and Greg Wyatt at its 2014 Hall of Fame Gala. Ai and Wyatt follow in the footsteps of fellow League artists who have shaped the course of art around the world since 1875, including Frederick Remington, Norman Rockwell, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollack, Louise Bourgeois, and Cy Twombly. One of the world’s most versatile and provocative artists, Ai, who studied at the League in the 1980s, is also famous for his political activism. Wyatt, a League instructor, benefactor, and the founder of the League’s Model to Monument public art training program, is a prolific American sculptor, whose bronze sculptures in the style of “spiritual realism” have been displayed throughout the world.
In addition to celebrating the League’s rich heritage and worldwide influence, the gala will spotlight talented students who will be sculpting and painting from live models at the event. Guests will receive a ceramic piece crafted by noted League artists Morito Yasumitsu or Anne Richter as a remembrance of the evening.
