Cocktails for a Cause: Transform the Hustle

April 18, 2015 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

$75

This event celebrates Defy Ventures’ groundbreaking impact as well as the launch of Defy Professional Network (DPN), a dynamic group of professionals representing a diverse array of industries and backgrounds all committed to supporting Defy’s mission through fund-raising and increasing awareness.

America is touted as the land of opportunity and second chances—a land of liberty and justice for all. But this isn’t the case for the 100 million Americans with criminal records, who have served their time but remain permanently stigmatized and often can’t even access minimum wage employment.

Defy Ventures’ entrepreneurship, employment, and character training program is tackling the problems of generational poverty, recidivism and mass incarceration in a groundbreaking way. Defy recognizes that many former drug dealers and gang leaders can become successful entrepreneurs. Defy “transforms the hustle” of formerly incarcerated Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EITs) by offering intensive leadership development, Shark Tank-style business plan competitions, executive mentoring, financial investment, and startup incubation. Defy intentionally builds life-giving, authentic community between EITs and executive volunteers as they bond in their humanity.

Join us at Hudson Terrace on Saturday, April 18th from 8pm to 10:30pm for:
– Open bar on the rooftop at Hudson Terrace
– Presentation from Defy Ventures’ founder and CEO, Catherine Hoke
– Networking with Defy Professional Network and supporters
– Special DJ and dance performances
– Opportunities to get involved with supporting Defy Ventures and DPN
